What a lovely day…

November 22, 2007

…for a race! It is Thanksgiving and in Upstate NY it is supposed to be cold and snowy at the end of November! Apparently the weather didn’t get that message and instead it was cold and pouring rain.

One of the local towns held their 35th annual Turkey Trot, a 4.4 mile race near the lake. With the lovely winds blowing in across the lake from Canada, and the torrential downpour of rain, I am sure Kyle had a nice run… I had to work, so my MIL took Kyle to the race. She said everyone was covered in mud at the end of the race. Several people apparently fell down, although Kyle was not one of them. But all of the runners will still muddy, whether they fell or not. Over 1400 people went out to run. Due to the ridiculously large crowd, my Mother-in-law was not able to get a picture of Kyle crossing the finish line, but she did take a good shot of the throng of people. We are still waiting for the results of the race to be posted, but my MIL is pretty sure he finished in just under 41 minutes. Go Kyle!

  1. WOW! Kyle certainly gets an A+ for tenacity! The weather was so awful this morning, I didn’t want to even get out of BED! Gotta hand it to him!
AND your MIL for taking him. Good job on both accounts!

  2. It was, indeed, an awful day, weather-wise, at least. Sister, Sarah, and I nearly drowned or froze to death, but thanks to the windscreen provided by our trusty umbrella, we were there to congratulate the runners, especially Kyle. Remember what the Weather Channel always says about avoiding low-lying areas near streams??? The Finish Line was adjacent to Mill Creek which was nearly bank-full by race-end!!! Amazingly enough, all 1500 runners and the crowd, were in great spirits, not in the least dampened by rain or wind. Too bad the rain and mud short-circuited the timing system and prevented the runners from getting accurate results, but Kyle’s time was under 41 minutes for his 1st ever 7K race. Way to go, Kyle!!!
